If you're ready, let's get started. 🙂

Installing a software from the Pardus Software Center interface

If you want to install software on your Pardus using the Pardus Software Center application, the first thing you need to do is to open the Pardus Software Center application from the Applications menu or application panel.

When you open the application, Pardus Software Center will welcome you with its very stylish interface.

There are two options in front of those who want to install a program from the Pardus Software Center interface. You can install it from the "Pardus" tab or from the "Depo" tab. The "Repository" tab has an additional function, the "Repository" tab in the Pardus Software Center also carries the functions of the "Synaptic Package Manager" software. Thus, package management can be provided from a single interface.

The application that we will set up as an example in this narrative “Telegram“. For this, I press the search button in the upper right corner, type the name of the software I want to install and press the Enter key to search. If it is in the list, which is in the example below, the software I want to install appears in front of me.

Or, as mentioned above, I can click the "Repository" button at the top left, type the package I want to install in the search box that opens, search and install the package I want.

As seen in the images, I found the application I wanted to install. In the "Repository" tab, I can click on the package I want to install and press the "Install" button that appears at the bottom. But I want to learn more about the application and perform the installation from a slightly more visual interface. For this, I return to the "Pardus" tab.

From this section, you can get more detailed information about the application, review the screenshots, read the user comments and install the application on your Pardus by using the "Install" button at the top right.

When you press the "Install" button, Pardus will bring up this box asking you to verify your identity. Enter your password and hit the "Verify" button.

After verifying your identity, the installation will begin.

If the installation process has been completed successfully, you should see an image like the one below.

Congratulations! You can open and use the application by clicking the “Open” button or by searching under the Applications menu.

Installing a software with Synaptic Package Manager

We search for Synaptic Package Manager by typing its name in the search section in the Applications menu and open it.

After entering your password and providing the necessary authorization to the application, you will be greeted with an interface like this and a short introductory text if you have never opened it before:

After reading the short introductory text, the first thing you need to do before installing a software on Pardus is to press the "Refresh" button on the top left of the interface. Thus, new software has been added to the repositories, existing packages have been removed, or if there is an update, you can update your local package information by taking their information to your system.

After pressing the Refresh button, you will see something similar to the following:

After updating the package information, we can now move on to the software installation part. There are two ways to find the software you want, one is the search button on the top right, and the other is the categories on the left.

For example, in this articleChromiumI will install the browser named ”. For this, I click on the "Search" button on the top right.

In the window that opens, I write the name of the application I want and press the "Search" button.

Search results came up. Now I double click on the name of the application I want and add it to the list.

There are some additional packages that this software depends on for it to work. That's why such a warning window appeared before me. When I click Mark, additional dependencies will be marked along with the package I want.

Additionally, if there are other packages you want to install, you can select them. I want to install both packages I marked in blue. For this, I add them to the list by double-clicking on them. If I wanted to install another software, I could press the "Search" button again, search for the software I wanted and add it to the list in the same way.

After completing the selection process, I press the "Apply" button located towards the middle at the top.

If you want to know the details of the changes you want to make, simply press the "Show details" button on the right.

Now, by pressing the “Apply” button, I let the download and installation processes begin. It will download the packages I selected first.

Then it will go to the installation phase.

If the download and installation was successful, you should see something similar to this:

Congratulations! You can now run the application -or applications- you installed under the Applications menu.

Installing a software from the terminal interface

“Graphic interfaces are not self, I i am a terminal If you say “brother”, you are under the right heading. If you want to install packages from the terminal interface to Pardus, you should know the first thing you need to do, of course, open the terminal. Let's open the terminal under the applications menu.

When you open the terminal first sudo apt update Enter the command. So you will update the package repositories.

Do not say, “This terminal is broken, I am typing, but nothing is visible”, for security reasons, no characters appear when typing passwords on the terminal in any Linux distribution. After entering your password, we press Enter and continue.

Now we are ready to install software on our Pardus. Here is the command you need to type to install a package from the package repository in Pardus and other Debian-based Linux distributions:

sudo apt install packageName

here paketAdirepresents the name of the package you want to install. As an example in this article htopI will use . terminal for this sudo apt install htop I am writing.

When I press enter, if htop has no other dependencies it will directly start downloading and then installing. If it had an addiction, it would ask me for confirmation to download and install other dependencies as well.
